Dear Parents,
During the following weeks, here are some ideas of things your child can do at home to help them along with their French skills. I would strongly encourage to put aside some 'French time' everyday and allow your child some time on the computer so he/she can access some of the resources available.
Today, I tried to get everyone signed up on https://boukili.ca/en which is like a French version of Raz kids. If your child was not at school today, you can always help them sign themselves in. This will help a lot with practicing reading skills without needing your help. I will have all the passwords with me, so if in a week your child does not remember how to sign in or something is not working properly, I will be happy to help you if you send me an email at [email protected].
For the stronger readers, you can log in on https://biblioottawalibrary.ca/en with your library card number (library cards are free). You'll need to find Tumblebooks in french and your child will have access to a variety of books, being read to them, to ensure good prononciation of words.
Again, the website https://www.logicieleducatif.fr/ provides a lot of different activities to develop reading comprehension and practice with verbs and vocabulary.
Some other ideas: -get sibblings to play board games in French only.
-Find a favorite show on Netflix and change the language to French, as well as subtitles if needed.
-Listen to French songs or even find your favorite show in French on youtube. Hit the setting button to change the speed, in case they are speaking too fast.
-Here is another link to find shows and games that are appropriate for your child. https://ici.radio-canada.ca/jeunesse
-Take the time to learn how to type by using https://www.typingclub.com/ which is also available on your student portal. Challenge your siblings and see who is better at this by the end of the two weeks!
-Here is the website provided by the Ministry of Education. Click on 'French' to access other resources. https://www.ontario.ca/page/learn-at-home
-Through scholastic, you can also access good free reading resources (in English, but some science and social studies topics are covered there). http://scholastic.ca/education/free_digital_resources/ and https://classroommagazines.scholastic.com/support/learnathome.html
-You can also download the application 'duolingo' on your phone or your tablet. This is an application to help you develop your French skills.
Grade 5 Immersion: You have a special task from our Energy diet contest to complete for April 6th. You need to make an artistic creation out of ONLY recyclable materials. You have lots of time to gather your materials, so make sure you keep your eyes open and check that recycling bin. You can paint it or color it. It can be anything, so be creative! I can't wait to see what you all come up with! Send me a picture at [email protected] when you are done.
If you have any questions, concerns, or need help with anything, please don't hesitate to contact me at [email protected]
Miss you!
Mme Annie
-Here is another great resource to read books online. If you go at the very bottom of the page, on the right, click on 'histoires à écouter- toutes les histoires' and you will be able to listen to someone read it to you. Tons of books to choose from! There is a way to follow the story with the words and listen at the same time, you just have to play around the website a bit. If you need help, let me know. https://jeunesse.short-edition.com/
-This is a good website to review basic vocabulary while playing games. www.french-games.net/
-magazines for different age groups https://numerico.cforp.ca/
